LAY LEADER MOMENT

"Give us this day our daily bread", Matthew 6:11.
Are you hungry? Are you thirsty? Are you starving? When Jesus said the words that are so familiar to us and these words that we recite every Sunday the people who heard them knew exactly what He meant. These people baked bread every day. They toiled mixing the dough. They toiled milling the grain. They toiled every day over the hot ovens. They had to work to feed themselves. They knew the meaning of not knowing where their next loaf would come from. But Jesus gives them hope. Jesus gives them relief from their daily toil.
Matthew 5:6 -"Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be fed".
The Message Bible says this same verse in these words - "You are blessed when you've worked up a good appetite for God. He's food and drink in the best meal you will ever have".
The people who listened to Jesus had to work day and night for their meals. In today's world we have storage so that we know not only what we will be eating today; we know what we will be eating tomorrow and even for the rest of the week.
But this is physical nourishment. Jesus talks to us about our Spiritual needs. Our Spiritual food to keep our Hearts and minds focused on Christ. (Phil 4:6-7 and 2 Pet. 3:17-18).
At OUMC we are offering many ways for each of us to enrich and nourish ourselves with Spiritual food so that we may grow (1 Pet. 1-2).
