Congregational Care

Purpose of the Congregational Care Committee

  • To encourage persons to remain connected and engaged in the life of the church so as to fulfill their ministry.
  • To assist those "seeking God's presence and a sense of belonging."

Caring Opportunities

Contact the church office at 523-5115 or oumc@oumc.org for more information about any of the following ministries.

College Student Care

This ministry provides housing for college student parents during special week-ends throughout the year and also holds student-oriented social events.

Nursing Home Visitation

Persons engaged in this ministry visit church members and friends monthly or more often who are residing in area nursing homes (The Knolls of Oxford, Liberty Nursing Center and Woodland Manor).

Prayer Ministry

Persons involved in this ministry offer themselves in loving response to pray for others and to nurture themselves and grow in intimacy with God.
The Prayer List is comprised of United Methodist Women who respond to special prayer requests from individuals.  Call Anna Laura White at 523-8195 or Sue Holmes at 523-3730 to ask the women to pray for you, or someone else with their permission.

Warm Line

This telephone ministry strives to contact all congregational members at least once quarterly.

Short Term Care Ministry

This ministry assists those who could use short term help when returning home from a hospital stay, have a family crisis, need a trip to the grocery store or just need a smile and to know that someone cares.

Home-Bound Friend

This ministry brings personal friendship to those who are temporarily confined to their home for two weeks or more.  Unique visiting relationships are established between the calling friend and the confined person according to the specific situation.

Notes, Cards and Communications

This ministry sends birthday, get well, anniversary and sympathy cards to congregational members.

Hospital Visits

Persons engaged in this ministry supplement the pastors in calling on persons who are hospitalized.

Funeral Luncheons

This ministry is offered by United Methodist Women and provides lunches and other food to the family and friends of the bereaved. A Guide for Families Planning Funeral Meals is available in the church office.

Traveling Tea Party

The Traveling Tea Party is for shut-ins who haven't been able to come to church for awhile or someone who needs a visit and lift of spirits.
